bullet  General Notes:

Reginald worked for his father until his mid-twenties. He was largely responsible for the installation of the petrol pumps at Walnut Tree Farm, He went into business on his own and acquired the local milk round. He married Nellie Harrington at Darenth in 1931. Nellie was the stepdaughter of William Webster, Publican of the Fox Inn. Her natural father had been killed in the 1914-1918 war. Her mother married Bill Webster and he brought up Nellie and her sister Catherine, there was also a daughter by this marriage.

Reginald and Nellie had three sons, two born in Darenth and the youngest in Great Finborough, Suffolk. They had moved there in about 1936 when they purchased the local Post Office and Retail Store. They prospered at this business as it was in the days before supermarkets, and around 1952 they purchased Church Farm at Hitcham, thus achieving his life’s ambition to become a farmer.

Reginald died whilst on holiday in Wales and he is buried in Darenth with his parents, he was 66. Nellie lived until she was 82 but suffered a series of strokes in her mid-seventies and the quality of her life during her latter years left much to be desired. She is also buried at Darenth with Reg and his parents.
