Scotland de Rushbrooke
Scotland de Rushbrooke is the origin of our family, from him we have all descended. He lived in Scotland in the parish of Polstead, Suffolk. He held lands at Ryscebroc from Abbott Samson of St. Edmund's Bury. It became his main seat in about 1150. Surnames at that time were not fixed or hereditary, but were descriptions of where a man was or what he was or did. In the course of time surnames became hereditary and of course ceased to be truly descriptive. The name Rushbrooke became the surname of the descendants of "Scotland of Rushbrooke". Scotland married Unknown on an unknown date. (Unknown was born on an unknown date and died on an unknown date.) |
