General Notes:
Joseph moved from Hardingham and he was the first Rushbrooke to live at Waylands in Scoulton. Joseph had a great attachment to the village of Hardingham and he, his wife, his parents and most of his family are buried there. It is also interesting to note that Joseph, Mary and Thomas of Garveston were unable to write their names. All three signed the Marriage Register with an “X” certified by the Vicar. At this time, children left school at the age of 12, it is not surprising that they were illiterate. Joseph had a meagre living as a tenent farmer, moving several times in an effort to improve his lot. His situation dramatically improves when his daughter Mary married William Norton, a land agent. Joseph was granted the tenency of more land at Hardingham.
Joseph married Mary Allen in 1761 in Hardingham. (Mary Allen was born in 1734 in Hockering, died in 1803 in Hardingham and was buried in Hardingham.)
