Maud Violet Rushbrooke
“The apple of her father’s eye” She married Ernest Wood in Darenth in 1930. He was an extremely nice man and was in charge of the Printing Works which made the white £5 notes. They had been married for little over a year when Maud was attacked in her own home by a young retarded man who tried to strangle her. Maud developed a goitre within a few months and she died aged 29, there were no children. The death of Maud had a profound effect on Evelyn her father, even some twenty years later, the mention of Maud would bring him to tears. Maud married Ernest Wood in 1930 in Darenth. (Ernest Wood was born in 1897 and died in 1971.) |
