FLUMINUS RITU FERIMUR
"We rush on like a brook"
The name is derived from a place name, and Rushbrooke village is in the County of Suffolk, three miles from Bury St. Edmunds. It is first
recorded in 950 and is spelt RYSSEBBROC and appears again in the Doomsday Book in 1086, and there is spelt RYSCEBROC.
Scotland, a loyal supporter of "The House of Normandy" was granted lands from the Abbot of St. Edmunds Bury. He settled in the village of Rushbrooke and his issue adopted the name because it was their main Seat at about 1150 and they spelt the name RUSHBROOKE.
Scotland de Rushbrooke is the origin of our name, and from him the Rushbrookes have
descended.
This site is under construction and will be based on the work of my uncle, Michael Anthony Rushbrooke, who spent several years researching the family name. It is entirely due to him that I am able to present this data online for all who may be interested to see. Please come back soon to see the progress.
